Laser Scanner

As the name implies, this tool serves to scan a 3-dimensional object (remotely of course, without having to touch the object), convert it into CAD drawing, to then further processed using software specially made by the manufacturer of the Laser Scanner tool. Along with the development of the tool, the software to process raw data from the tool also develops, does not have to use special software built tool, but can already use other popular CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Solidworx, CATIA, and others , Simply by adding a special plugin tool created by the makers of Laser Scanners or CAD software manufacturers.

The raw data generated by a 3d Laser Scanner is a collection of dots called pointcloud. This pointcloud represents the surface shape of an object with the density between the points we set as needed. Each point of eachpointcloud has the identity of the coordinates X, Y and Z, measured from the stand point of the 3D Laser Scanner tool.

Miscellaneous 3D Laser Scanners:

1. 3D Non Contact Active Laser Scanner

The non-active 3D action of the laser scanner utilizes a laser beam that is fired at the object, then the reflection of the laser beam is then recaptured by the laser scanner and recorded into a computer or laptop device with specialized software. This concept is similar to the way sonar works, the difference between sonar firing sound waves rather than laser light. The reflected laser is not continuous, but the dots per point so that the result is a point or bias called point cloud. But with a fairly high speed, varying between hundreds to thousands of bias points recorded in a single scond, depending on the type and product of 3D laser scanner tools used.

The raw data generated by pointcloud 3D laser scanners, and this pointcloud represent the surface shape of an object with the density between the points we set as desired. Each point of each pointcloud has the identity of the coordonate X, Y, and Z, measured from the stand point of the 3D laser scanner tool.

2. 3D Non Contact Passive Scanner

3D non contact scanners are cheaper and easier to use than active scanners. In photometric and silhouette systems, images are taken from different angles by circling the captured object. The image is then placed all on a computer. In stereoscopic system used 2 video camera. Each video camera is placed in a different position and the end result is combined into a 3D movie.

3. 3D Contact Scanner

3D contact scanner works with coordinate measuring machine. The result is checked and transferred into the form of a fiscal object to the computer. Using 3 akis (X, Y, Z) that checks an object and records the distance it has. Distance coordinates are recorded on a computer program and converted into an image. The inspector can be either light or laser light, but the contact scanner is always a mechanical engine.

The working principle of 3D Laser Scanner utilizes a laser beam that is fired at the object, and then the laser beam is recaptured by Laser Scanner and recorded into a computer device (laptop) that has been equipped with special software.

This concept is similar to the working principle of sonar, the difference between sonar firing sound waves rather than laser light. Lasers fired are not continuous, but dots per point (hence the result is a point - point cloud), but with a fairly high speed, varying between hundreds to thousands of points can be recorded in one second, depending on the type and brand of 3D Laser tool Scanner used.

In its development, this tool has proven to be applicable in many areas;

  1. Oil & Gas. Measurements of oil drilling installations are mostly done with the help of a 3d Laser Scanner. Not a few platform bearers who do not have the latest images from the refinery. While for the purposes of development or modification they need the latest images, and it is impossible to measure the installation of the pipe manually, will be very time-consuming.

  2. Architectural. This tool is perfect for scanning architectural buildings includingheritage.

  3. Civil    Scanning bridges or overpasses will be greatly helped by the use of this tool. Accuracy of measurement results for this purpose will be well accommodated by the appliance.

  4. Irregular shape. For example statue, 3d Laser Scanner can record the shape of the geometry of the sculpture in 3 dimensions. The CAD drawing function for such objects is for replication purposes, such as replication of rare and critical objects, such as rare animal bone fossils. With this tool, the shape of fossil geometry can be accurately scanned and recorded in CAD software for documentation, analysis (by shape and size), and replication. With the material in the form of CAD model, of course there is no difficulty if we want to make replication scale, just need to change the scale on the CAD drawing it.

  5. Calculation of stock pile volume. Examples are volume calculations for sand stacks.     With 3d Laser Scanner, this work will be done very quickly and accurately.

  6. Automotive. Unexpectedly, the demand for 3D Laser Scanner for automotive industry is quite high. Especially for measuring and remodeling old production objects that are no longer traceable to the original image
